Registration for the 2020-21 season is now OPEN for eligible players interested in joining the CCVHC Middle School/Bantam team. Please click on the link below to register.
Here are some helpful reminders...
COMMUNICATION IS CRITICAL. We recognize that tryout scheduling has been unavoidably delayed by several months due to USA Hockey/MidAm rules and state mandated rink closures. We want your son to be able to participate in CCVHC! If your son interested in trying out for either the Central Catholic Vikings Hockey VARSITY or JUNIOR VARSITY team, but is unable to attend one or more of the scheduled tryouts, please contact Vikings Head Coach Bill Connelly promptly.
USA HOCKEY MEMBERSHIP. All interested players are reminded to renew their USA Hockey Membership for the 2020-2021 season prior to registering for any CCVHC program. USA Hockey membership for the 2019-2020 season will expire on July 31, 2020.
SAFESPORT TRAINING. All CCVHC players birth year 2003 and older must complete USA Hockey SafeSport training prior to the start of the season (August 1, 2020). Please see USA Hockey SafeSport Training for detailed information and program certification. SafeSport training/certification is now required annually.
REQUIRED BASELINE CONCUSSION TESTING. The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) requires all players to complete a concussion baseline test every 2 years. Players/parents are required to attest that this testing is current at least two weeks prior to the first PIHL game.
This summer, there are several testing options for parents to consider.
First, parents can register for testing through the "HeadsUP Summer 2020" program. For further information about baseline concussion testing, and to schedule an appointment, please see UPMC ImPACT Baseline Concussion Testing. The registration link is at the lower right of the webpage. The cost is usually $25.00.
Second, most pediatricians also offer in-office baseline concussion testing. As you schedule your son's annual physical or sports physical this summer, please discuss this option with your pediatrician. The cost is usually $25.00.
Third, CCHS will make available *free* baseline testing sessions for ALL prospective CCVHC players in August. Please see the direct link below to sign up. If you are unable to obtain any required baseline concussion testing for your player, this may still be something to consider.
Due to social distancing guidelines, CCHS can only test 25 student athletes total per session. All student athletes who sign up for a test will have a COVID-19 screening performed before entering the building and will be required to wear a mask while inside the building for testing.
All testing will take place in the basement of the campus STEM building in two classrooms to allow for proper social distancing. The "CCHS Baseline Testing Campus Map" referenced below this article will show where student athletes can enter the building for screening and then proceed to the testing area. There is also a designated area marked on the map for family members to park and wait in their vehicles while testing is in progress. We ask that you arrive no more than twenty (20) minutes prior to your signed up testing slot. Testing will take about one (1) one hour.
Please use this CCHS SignUpGenius Link to sign up for a day and time slot for testing. Any questions should be sent directly to email@example.com.
REQUIRED CCVHC HOCKEY EQUIPMENT. All CCVHC players will wear the BAUER or CCM GOLD helmets for practices and games. Although this helmet color is now being used by a number of teams in the Pittsburgh area, it remains difficult to find in stock in stores and online. As a result, CCVHC is evaluating partnering with a local retail and participating in their "Quick Team" program, which would not only provide 24-hour shipping, but discounted team rates. As soon as information is available, it will be posted here.
If your player is returning to CCVHC, please make sure that your son's helmet still fits him, is in good condition and that the helmet sticker on the back from the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC) is current. After the start of the season, the coaches will distribute Central Catholic Vikings athletic stickers to put on any new helmets.
As a member of any CCVHC team, the Club will loan your son two game jerseys (home & away) and a practice jersey to use for the year. Junior Varsity and Varsity players will also receive a garment bag to use for the season. The Club will give your son two sets (home & away) of hockey socks. These do not need to be returned. All players will also be issued a CCVHC game tie. On "game days," JV and Varsity players are required to wear this tie to school. All players, as a part of the "game day" dress code, are required to wear this tie to/from games. Information about the CCVHC Dress Code and Player Code of Conduct will be in the Season Handbook.
All players, if they do not have one that fits, will need to order CCVHC pant shells. JV and Varsity players, if they do not have one, will need to order an equipment bag. A CCVHC equipment bag will be loaned to the Bantam/Middle School players to use for the season.
For all players, the CCVHC equipment/apparel order form is embedded within all team registrations. While the completed order form is due with the player's team registration (so that the orders can be placed as quickly as possible), the $350 equipment deposit (due for all apparel/equipment that is being loaned) and apparel/equipment payment is not due until apparel/equipment distribution day. All checks are to be made payable to "Central Catholic High School."
Please do not delay in scheduling any testing your player may need to compete in the PIHL this season!
